Teeth Whitening in Columbia

teeth whitening before and afterIf tarnished teeth leave you feeling too self-conscious to smile, we can do something about that. With our teeth whitening solutions at Oak Hall Dental, you can “erase” years of stubborn stains and perk up your pearly whites.

Determining the Best Option for You

Before we can recommend the whitening treatment for you, we will perform an exam and take radiographs. That’s because we first want to make sure your teeth are healthy and you don’t have any cavities. Then based on your teeth and overall dental health, we will recommend which option will be the best.

For an affordable way to brighten your smile from the convenience of home, we offer Opalescence Go™. This whitening system involves trays you wear at home. While it’s not as strong as in-office whitening, it’s a great choice for those with sensitive teeth.

With this option, we take impressions and make custom trays. You will be given syringes filled with Opalescence whitening solution. This option is a little more expensive than pre-fabricated applicator trays, but it’s more effective.

This whitening option is also more convenient because the trays are fabricated for each person. If you need more bleaching material, you can stop by our office and pick it up.

If you’re seeking the best possible whitening results, in-office whitening is ideal. Because this method uses a stronger bleaching material, if you have sensitive teeth, it will be a bit more uncomfortable. But we will find out if you have sensitivity during the initial exam and recommend the best option. We use Opalescence Boost™ for in-office whitening.

What About Sensitivity?

Give us a call if you feel any sensitivity with either of the take-home options. We can adjust the whitening timeline. After three days, if you report any sensitivity, we’ll ask you to wear the trays for a shorter amount of time. If you’re not experiencing sensitivity and feel fine, then we will recommend you wear the trays longer.

For in-office whitening, we will check in with you after 72 hours post appointment. For patients using this service, we ask that you come in every 6 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

How white will my teeth get?

With Opalescence Go, we can expect at least one shade lighter. With Boost, your teeth should get 3-4 shades whiter. It depends on how white your teeth are. If you have some coffee staining on your teeth, we see better results.

If your dentin (the second layer) is very yellow, we don’t get a big result, but we do discuss that during our initial exam and will let you know what to expect. If whitening isn’t a good option for you, we do offer veneers. For those cases, we can see quicker results.

How soon will I see results with take-home trays?

With take-home trays, you can expect a gradual whitening over several months. You’ll need to wear the trays for at least 20-30 minutes. While you won’t see dramatic changes immediately, your teeth should appear whiter after 5-10 days.

How do I take care of my teeth after whitening?

You should avoid drinking too much coffee, wine or tea, as well as eating foods that stain like berries.
